Where: Sacramento Convention Center

On August 18, the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and CaliforniaVolunteers will host a conference in Sacramento designed to highlight and strengthen the role of faith-based and community organizations in meeting the needs of their communities, with a special focus on resources and partnership opportunities. This event will provide resources and training on a variety of topics, including volunteer trends and management, disaster preparedness and response, crime prevention/intervention, prisoner reentry, accessing private, State and Federal resources and more.

This event is part of a series of regional conferences hosted by the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives across the country and around the world. These events are designed to connect frontline nonprofit organizations with resources to help strengthen and expand the services they offer and facilitate opportunities to network with community partners and government officials. Breakout sessions will feature information on State and Federal grants and practical guidance on the grant-writing process; opportunities for non-financial collaboration between government and nonprofit programs; and successful practices of effective human service organizations.

The conference is free, but pre-registration is required. Registration is granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register online by Friday, August 8th.

New Tools Launched for Working with Faith-Based Organizations

On June 26 and 27, the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Intiatives hosted their national conference, "Innovations in Effective Compassion," in Washington D.C.

As part of the conference, the Corporation for National and Community Service released two new online courses tools on its Resource Center Web site. The first, “State Commissions and Faith-Based and Community Organizations” will help the 50 state service commissions learn how to best work with their local faith-based and community groups. The second, called “Leveraging Partnerships for Community Impact” will help organizations who use volunteers learn to partner more effectively with faith-based and community groups. Both courses can be viewed on the Resource Center's Course Catalogue listing.
